BLACKENING FLUID


Blackening Fluid as the name suggests is used in the process for Blackening of Steel. A protective coating, for the material during, storage and handling.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:

Color: Colorless – Light Yellow thick liquid.
Specific Gravity: 1.5 +/- 0.1
pH: 14 (highly alkaline).

Articles to be blackened should be dry before immersion. Articles remain immersed for about 10 –30 minutes and removed, swilled and dried. Bath temperature should be maintained between 130 - 150° C. Adding solution/ water should be done with the greatest care through a pipe, to avoid spitting. 0.5% of Sodium Sulfide may be added after the solution has been used for a time as it will have exhausted and color may not develop. The black color developed may be preserved with suitable oil.

Caution: Do not get in contact with skin. In case of contact, wash with cold, running water. Seek medical help immediately.
